South Carolina’s governor declared a state of emergency this week as dozens of wildfires burned across parts of North and South Carolina, causing evacuations, minor property losses and unhealthy air quality.
State, local and national news sites reported that more than 1,600 acres near Myrtle Beach in northeast South Carolina were on fire Monday and visibility was poor. Several fires in the area were partially contained by Monday, the New York Times reported.
